Unless you know the history of what has been done to that laptop, you could be chasing gremlins and it may be easiest to start over and restore the image to factory condition after backing up all user data and settings.
And don’t let “it worked before” stop you from changing the SSID to just letters and numbers.

Even after the reinstallation of drivers which I did myself: This problem JUST happened and it’s got me bummed. Yes, the computer connects to other wi-fi hotspots, like public connections and so forth.
At less the fix for that is known.
