The term “Audio Compatibility Driver” comes directly from the device manager and the full name on mine is ‘Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver’ the device manager as well as windows media player when I try to play a file says that it has been disabled, or that there is no driver installed. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. Winmm Wdm Audio Compatibility Driver Problem
Muting the volume and changing compatibllity settings didn’t change anything and I’ve had to plug headphones in to stop the annoying feedback and amplified typing coming through the main speakers – which therefore seem to work.
